If you’re like 99% of gamers, you mash A (or X or Escape etc.) as soon as you load the game so you can skip all the bullshit developer logos and intro videos. On occasion however, I find myself putting down the controller, leaning back and just admiring the introduction. Here is an arbitrary list of some of the intros that I have enjoyed over the years.

Battlefield 1942
As far as I can remember, Battlefield 1942 was probably the first game in which I always watched the introduction. After watching it once, the theme song would be stuck in heads for weeks. As stale as it may seem, this shit got me so pumped even though I was sitting in a dark internet cafe surrounded by Asians playing Counter Strike and WoW.

See the rest of the intros after the jump…

So a few days ago the folks at Blizzard announced an interesting feature of the Battle.net system, allowing it to display your REAL NAME on your account. This feature would display automatically when users post on their forums, as well as serving their primary purpose of turning World of Warcraft into Facebook integrating a more immersive friends list within the Battle.net community.

Subsequently, as expected, the forums at worldofwarcraft.com exploded with negative feedback. So Blizzard has come to their senses after all and withdrew the use of real names in their forums. One thing that may have contributed to this decision could be one of Blizzard’s own employees posting their full name to prove how it wasn’t a big deal, only to have the Blizzard community track down the employee’s home address, phone number, wife’s name, and even where his children went to school. Gotta love the internet.

So we can all relax now, you won’t have to worry about any level 80 Warlocks laying down some heavy DPS on your children on their walk home from school.
