So remember last week when we learned about the backlash of Real ID in the Blizzard forums? Yeeeaaah, well, about that. Well it seems as though in some sort of miraculous twist of fate, the ESRB took the problem into their own hands over all the privacy concerns surrounding the update. They collected all the feedback emailed in from users, cooked up a sweet batch of copypasta, pasted it into an email…and…

…wait for it…

…WAIT FOR IT…

THE SONS OF BITCHES HIT REPLY ALL.

So a few days ago the folks at Blizzard announced an interesting feature of the Battle.net system, allowing it to display your REAL NAME on your account. This feature would display automatically when users post on their forums, as well as serving their primary purpose of turning World of Warcraft into Facebook integrating a more immersive friends list within the Battle.net community.

Subsequently, as expected, the forums at worldofwarcraft.com exploded with negative feedback. So Blizzard has come to their senses after all and withdrew the use of real names in their forums. One thing that may have contributed to this decision could be one of Blizzard’s own employees posting their full name to prove how it wasn’t a big deal, only to have the Blizzard community track down the employee’s home address, phone number, wife’s name, and even where his children went to school. Gotta love the internet.

So we can all relax now, you won’t have to worry about any level 80 Warlocks laying down some heavy DPS on your children on their walk home from school.
